Endless Summer...and a new exciting JOB!!!

Luckily where I live it feels like summer most of the year. Yes, it gets cold on California's Central Coast. But, the sun is shining on most days year round. The coast in the early mornings is always peaceful and welcoming. My favorite time of the day is before 8am on our little quiet community beach. Most weekdays I have the 1/4 mile stretch of beach all to myself. I should add, Inde the dog is always with me too. When I remove my shoes and walk down the 20 or so stairs, I look forward to feeling the water and shells between my toes. Sometimes another dog or two runs along in the distance, Inde galloping to find out who it is. She's middle aged, nearly 10 years old, but runs like she's still a teenager. No ball or stick will go unnoticed with this gray and black beauty. As summer moves into August, I celebrate my journey and the places I've been along the way. A new stop has appeared, yes a new gig, a big one, a huge one, a life changing dream come true for this California girl! Drum roll please... I am the new voice of your Hancock College Football team. Yes, radio/TV play by play of community college football. I have always wanted to do play by play. I'll get to paint the picture for our listeners while my partner explains the action from a football mind. I will give the best description I can of the action on the field, while he tells us how and why. This is so cool and exciting. My job is describing the action, while his is to add color, reasoning and expertise. Fun for us all. It's my first time doing play by play. After 23 years in this business I'm doing an entry level job with a bunch of solid experiences behind me. I cannot wait. Practice beings August 9th, I'll meet the coaches asap. It'll be different for all of us. But, I will make Hancock proud and all of the people who have supported me over the years as well. It's the beginning of a new chapter in my story.

Another book signing...Half Dome...wow!!!

Wow, life changing experience last week in Yosemite to the top of the illustrious Half Dome. A granite rock bigger than I have ever seen in person. It was a perfect place to take a deep breath and realize where my life has taken me. Or, I've taken my life. Actually, we do create it, don't we? We manifest and plan our own lives, the good and the bad. We take responsibility for it and for what we've done, who we've been involved with, what we've said and how we've treated ourselves and others. Too deep for you? You can handle it! I'm in a different place today, personally and professionally. Such an unplanned shift for me at this time in my life. When you're questioning your path or journey, why not go hike a rock, climb up some sketchy cables without any equipment; challenging yourself to do something you've never done before, but can and will!!! How strong might you and will you feel when you've completed such a physically brutal task? AMAZING!!! I didn't ever think in my life I'd own my own radio show. I didn't ever think I would be selling it, marketing it, producing it, doing all the research, booking the guests and also, being the host. But, here I am, and I CAN do this. I AM doing this. My intern Scott, who in his own words, "is amazing," said to me recently... "CJ stop stressing, if you build it, they will come!" So, here I go, building it, planning it, creating it, marketing it, selling it...and I will manifest success. I will make it happen. I will get the listeners, I will promote the show and people will "make an appointment to listen." This is what the last 20+ years is all about. This coming Saturday is my final Hard Cover book signing. It takes place in San Luis Obispo, CA. 2-5pm at Chamisal Vineyards. For the first time in my life, I am using everything I have learned and experienced along the way to "create, and make my life, my book and my new show a success!" Yeah for me. Ok, did I admit it yet...I'm a little nervous, I have butterflies in my stomach. If I didn't, then I'd be worried.

What a fantastic weekend...

I know it's early. But, I haven't felt this good as a Dodger fan in years. Really, it's been since before the Murdoch schmucks ran the team. I know it may not last all season, or that Matt Kemp may not stay on this tear, or that Clayton Kershaw may not dominate like this all year. But man, is it fun right now to be an LA Dodger fan. I have stuck with the boys in blue through it all, and I mean ALL!!! Now, a moment of zen, peace, tranquility...okay maybe not that hokey, but still. It's awesome!!! If you've followed the drama with this team over the past 10 or so years, it's been rough, for sure! But, some of us have still gone to the stadium, felt the desire and rooted for the home team through the toughest of times. Now we are in a calm place, how long it will continue, we do not know. But, at least we have this shining moment. This season is the best the Big Blue Wreckin' Crew has started in years. I'm going to enjoy it, revel in it, breathe through it and celebrate every second. Because, with Frank McCourt's ugly mug still around, you never know what could happen. For it's one, two, three strikes you're out at the old ball game!!!

Tri-Tip Tri-Top Challenge...

Yes, it may hit 90 today while I'm on the hills to compete in the Challenge. Three local hikes in San Luis Obispo County in four hours or less. The payoff, a delicious Tri-Tip Sandwich or probably Tri-Tip salad at Firestone Grill downtown. First, it's Cerro San Luis, a lot of people in this town call it Madonna Mountain...the next is Bishops Peak...the final The P on Cal Poly's campus. I've done the first two. Cerro probably will take a little over an hour. Bishops about an hour as well. The P, I have no idea, I've never done it before. I figure, since I'm not running the First Annual San Luis Obispo Marathon, I needed to do a physical challenge too. Seeing as that I'm climbing Yosemite's Half Dome on May 27th, I need to be ready for anything! I've got gels and mini cliff bars from Pismo Beach Athletic Club to take on the hills. I'm freezing a couple bottles of water and then bringing a few snacks for the car in between stops. I think the biggest question is 'can we get it done in four hours or less?' The driving from place to place, the quick clothing changes and the 'I gotta pee' breaks, we shall see. I'll post pictures somewhere and tell the stories in the next chapter of...Tri-Tip Tri-Top Challenge. Stay tuned... Oh yeah, if I don't make it in under four hours, I have to wear a life size toothbrush costume all day and at a Cal Poly Baseball game, mortifying for sure!!!

Back in radio....

Aaaaahhhh, after week #1 I wasn't sure, man, was it strange to be back. But, after spending the next week breathing, planning and enjoying the business again, I feel much more comfortable. I'm having fun and don't feel much pressure at all. That part is huge. So often in the past, working for others and trying to please boss after boss, I was constantly feeling the stress. This time it's different, for this I am grateful!

On my very first show, I visited with sports talk show legend and TV sportscaster Dan Patrick, as well as Denver Nuggets Head Coach George Karl. Then I had Horace Grant for my second show.

I'm going to challenge myself to get one big name guest every week. If it doesn't happen EVERY week, I'll be okay. But, I'm shooting for that! Go big, sister, or go home!

I couldn't do it without Community VW of Santa Maria, Debi Cloud of The Cloud Company, Lido Restaurant, Star Automotive, Dr. Daniel Lapidus and Larry Ackerman at SLO Dentistry and of course Mike Chellsen at ESPN Radio 1280am. Scott Malatesta, there would not be a show without you in my corner!!! Thank you all for supporting this show and being with me from day one!!!

Oh and a few random thoughts from CJ Silas...Bobby Petrino you are a loser!!! Morgan Freeman, you creep me out. Tiger, blah! The only real baseball team in the Bay Area is the Oakland Athletics! Just sayin'!

GO Big Blue Wreckin' Crew!!!

I love the Final Four...

I love the Final Four, but big leads going into half time, not so much. Kansas just couldn't come back. I still think this is one of the best sporting events out there. March Madness and September are my two favorite sports times. There's so much going on and high energy all around the sports world.
If you haven't heard the new show...head to my website and listen to the debut on my Podcast. www.thecjsilasshow.com
Thanks to Community VW, Lido Restaurant, Dr. Daniel Lapidus at San Luis Obispo Dentistry, Star Automotive, The New Times, SLO Baked...yummy, The Cloud Company, The Law Offices of Stephen Stern and Mike Chellsen at ESPN for supporting my return to the airwaves. This is going to be soooo much fun!!!!
